Assistant Teacher

  • Promote school readiness by enhancing children's social, cognitive, and overall development through educational, health, nutritional, and social services.
  • Comply with Head Start Program Performance Standards, the Head Start Act, 5-Year Grant, MiLeap-Child Care Licensing Bureau, USDA-CACFP Requirements, Great Start Readiness Implementation Manual, NMCAA Personnel Policies, and other relevant guidelines.
  • Follow agency processes, policies, procedures, and guidance.
  • Adhere to the Child Protection Law, Staff and Volunteer Mandated Reporting Policy, NMCAA's Early Childhood Guidance Policy and Code of Conduct.
  • Provide a developmentally appropriate classroom environment using Creative Curriculum, School Readiness Goals, and Classroom Assessment Scoring System (CLASS), and conduct child developmental screenings and GOLD assessments.
  • Utilize data from GOLD assessments, team input, and parent feedback for lesson planning and Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) and address behavioral challenges using Conscious Discipline and a Classroom Support Plan.
  • Be present during core hours with children and adapt to flexible schedules to meet family and team needs.
  • Ensure a safe, healthy, and organized environment. Implement emergency procedures. Utilize Active Supervision practices. Follow policies on health care needs, food allergies, medication administration, and authorized adult releases.
  • Report incidents and accidents as require 

Education and Experience:

Have a child development associate (CDA) credential or a state-awarded certificate that meets or exceeds the requirements for a CDA credential,
are enrolled in a program that will lead to an associate or baccalaureate degree in ECE or CD; or, are enrolled in a CDA credential program to be completed within two years of the time of hire.
