Job Summary:
The Early Head Start Center Substitute assists in providing a developmentally appropriate environment for infants and toddlers, promoting school readiness through education, health, and nutritional services. The role includes supporting classroom activities, overseeing food service operations, ensuring child safety and well-being, and engaging families in the educational process.
Duties/Responsibilities:
Team with Family Services Specialist to recruit eligible children and participate in orientation for newly enrolled children.
Utilize Head Start Program Performance Standards, NMCAA Head Start Program Plan, and State of Michigan Licensing Rules to ensure program compliance.
In the absence of teaching staff, provide primary caregiving duties and collaborate to create a developmentally appropriate classroom environment.
Set clear behavioral expectations, prevent and redirect misbehavior using Conscious Discipline, and adhere to program protocols for behavior support.
Assist in completing child screenings and developmental assessments.
Ensure a safe and healthy classroom environment by following State of Michigan Licensing Rules for Child Care Centers, Great Start to Quality, and Head Start monitoring protocols for cleanliness, handwashing, and safety procedures.
Follow USDA, State of Michigan Licensing Rules for Child Care Centers, and Head Start nutrition guidelines for food service, including recording food service and assisting with food transfer.
Work with the Site Coordinator to create nutritious, balanced menus and serve family-style meals, ensuring food safety and allergy accommodations.
Communicate daily with parents, encouraging their involvement and supporting teachers in building collaborative partnerships.
Support individualized education plans (Individualized Family Service Plan/Individualized Education Plan) for children with disabilities.
Attend required training sessions, maintain employee certifications, and participate in professional growth opportunities.
Perform basic math, document food expenditures, and maintain food service supply inventory. Complete food allotment forms and assist with in-kind documentation.
Perform other duties as assigned and adhere to a flexible work schedule to meet job requirements.
