Tax Designated Quality Reviewer 

Purpose:

Help low-moderate income families, seniors, veterans, and persons living with disabilities get the tax refunds and credits they deserve for FREE in our year-round community program! Undergo on-site IRS training and make a big difference in your community by preparing tax returns in support of the IRS certified VITA/TCE NMCAA Free Tax Program and connecting taxpayers with other valuable community services and programs.

Position appointment is 52 weeks at 40hrs, fulltime year-round at $19.12/hour.

Essential functions:

  • IRS training and certification is provided for this position
  • Complete 40 paid hours of IRS training and testing to become IRS certified for designated quality reviewing of tax returns
  • Evaluate costumer need for tax preparation by phone, walk-in or appointment.
  • Conduction pre-screening and application processing for Free Tax Preparation Program
  • Prepare customer taxes with emphasis on Earned Income Credit, Child Tax Credit, Homestead Property Tax Credit, Home Heating Credit, and Education Credits in TaxSlayer e-filing software.
  • Obtain taxpayer consent and signature on tax return and complete e-file process
  • Verify all tax returns have undergone quality review at the end of each week and all tax returns with e-file signature and consent have been e-filed at the end of each day
  • Provide additional support as needed to the team. Activities that may include: scheduling clients for in-office appointments, answering client phone questions, providing intake interviews for taxpayers, and preparing drop-off tax returns, taking in-seat tax appointments, and promoting additional Financial Management Services assistances.

Position Objectives:

  • Collaborate with a dynamic and dedicated team to ensure the Free Tax Prep Program operates smoothly for staff and volunteers and creates a positive experience for our clients.
  • To represent NMCAA tax program in a professional, supportive, and knowledgeable manner and help connect tax clients with other NMCAA programing if in need.

Measured by:

  1. Annual performance reviews.
  1. Annual ROMA reports.
  1. Ongoing assessment.

Minimum Education:

Some college preferred, but not required.

Associates or above preferred in Business, Finance, or Human Services Field.

Minimum Experience:

Prior experience with tax preparation, accounting, or other finance-related fields

Familiarity with TaxSlayer return preparation software is ideal

Familiarity with Microsoft offices suites and Outlook
