Tax Corrdinator
Supervisory Responsibility: Tax Staff and Volunteers
Job Summary:
To assist in providing free tax preparation services for underserved communities within NMCAA by
overseeing and coordinating the seasonal volunteer tax preparation program, leading the Northwest
Michigan Tax Coalition, and promoting tax credits such as the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC), Home
Heating Credit, and Property Tax Credit for low- to moderate-income individuals.
Job Title: Tax Coordinator
Duties/Responsibilities:
Ensure full compliance with the regulations and requirements set forth by the Internal Revenue
Service, the Department of Health and Human Services, as well as state and local grants, in addition
to adhering to the policies and reporting guidelines established by the Northwest Michigan
Community Action Agency (NMCAA).
Manage the recruitment and training of volunteers across the ten-county service area, ensuring that
all volunteers are properly prepared and equipped to support the tax preparation program effectively.
Develop and manage program budgets, as well as monitor grants, contracts, and compliance with
operational regulations in coordination with Program Director.
Oversee the setup of tax preparation program sites, including the installation and configuration of
necessary computer hardware and software to facilitate smooth operations during the tax preparation
season.
Organize and facilitate meetings for the Northwest Michigan Tax Coalition, coordinating efforts to
improve community outreach and ensure collaboration among local partners, service providers, and
stakeholders.
Plan and coordinate tax blitz days in designated locations, ensuring that all logistics, staffing, and
outreach are managed to ensure broad community participation.
Provide supervision and coordination for the tax preparation process, ensuring all activities are carried
out efficiently, accurately, and in accordance with the established standards.
Work collaboratively with the Tax Program Staff to deliver high-quality, efficient, and friendly service
during the seasonal tax preparation program, ensuring clients receive the assistance they need in a
welcoming environment.
Represent NMCAA in a professional, supportive, and knowledgeable manner, maintaining the
organization’s positive reputation and fostering productive relationships with clients, volunteers, and
community partners
Reports to: Economic Stability Director
Travel Requirements:
Travel within the county or counties to meet with clients, community partners, and attend all-staff
meetings as required.
Licensing and Other Requirements:
Valid driver’s license and proof of vehicle insurance is required.
Reliable transportation is essential for job functions.
Work Hours:
Monday-Friday 7:30am-4:30pm.

Education and Experience:
BA/BS in a relevant field or equivalent experience is preferred.
Five years of relevant experience preferred.
Physical Requirements and Work Environment:
Regular physical tasks include typing, sitting, answering phones, and filing.
Frequent use of a computer for extended periods is required.
Occasional travel by car and/or air is necessary.
Frequent lifting of objects up to 25 lbs.
Occasional bending, stooping, reaching, climbing, kneeling, and twisting to access files and records.
Occasionally required to lift items weighing between 25 and 50 lbs.
