Job Title:   Teacher

Duties/Responsibilities:

Promote school readiness by enhancing children's social, cognitive, and overall development through educational, health, nutritional, and social services.

Comply with Head Start Program Performance Standards, the Head Start Act, 5-Year Grant, MiLeap-Child Care Licensing Bureau, USDA-CACFP Requirements, Great Start Readiness Implementation Manual, NMCAA Personnel Policies, and other relevant guidelines.

Follow agency processes, policies, procedures, and guidance.

Adhere to the Child Protection Law, Staff and Volunteer Mandated Reporting Policy, NMCAA's Early Childhood Guidance Policy and Code of Conduct.

Serve as Early Childhood Program Administrator (CCLB) as needed, assist with hiring, supervise classroom staff, and complete performance reviews.

Directly supervise classroom staff. Promote a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement. Monitor staff workloads and adjust assignments to optimize team performance. Provide a developmentally appropriate classroom environment using Creative Curriculum, School Readiness Goals, and the Classroom Assessment Scoring System (CLASS). Conduct child developmental screenings and GOLD assessments.

Utilize data from GOLD assessments, team input, and parent feedback for lesson planning and Individualized Education Plans (IEPs). Address behavioral challenges using Conscious Discipline and a Classroom Support Plan.

Guide families through the ISD referral process, attend IEP meetings and advocate for services. 

Ensure a safe, healthy, and organized environment. Implement emergency procedures. Utilize Active Supervision practices. Follow policies on health care needs, food allergies, medication administration, and authorized adult releases.

Report incidents and accidents as required.

Oversee transportation services and collaborate with Family Engagement and Recruitment & Health Specialists to ensure full enrollment and completion of child health requirements. May be required to ride the bus.

Education and Experience:

AA/AS in ECE or a field related to ECE and coursework equivalent to ECE education, with experience teaching preschool age children.
Candidates with a valid preschool CDA, willing to complete an associate degree in ECE or CD within 3 years, may be considered with an approved Office of Head Start Compliance Plan.
